Training of Second Batch of NBI Investigators in Rome, Italy

Thirty-three NBI investigators have completed one-week on-the-job training held at the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate (DIA) in Rome, Italy on 21-25 November 2022.

The Project “European Union for Law Enforcement in Albania – EU4LEA” is actively engaged in supporting the Albanian National Bureau of Investigation in its efforts to reach the full operational capacity under the guidance of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organised Crime (SPAK).

During the training sessions, the investigators were briefed on the main characteristics of the most dangerous Italian criminal organisations with a focus on the links with the Albanian criminality. Senior Investigators from DIA updated the Albanian colleagues on the most advanced investigative techniques aimed at dismantling mafia-style criminal organisation and their dealings with corrupted politicians and public officials. Particular attention was paid to the techniques for the identification and seizure of illicit assets and laundered money.

Furthermore, NBI investigators were given the opportunity not only to join Italian colleagues from DIA on the field while they were using special investigation means, but also to visit forensics laboratories specialized in the identification of the latent fingerprints and DNA traces.
